Welcome back after another long weekend! Today the children were excited to meet our new class pet- a beautiful blue Betta fish. It is a special kind of Siamese Fighting fish called a "Crown Betta". Tomorrow we look forward to voting on a name from our 5 finalists...Shiny, Swimmer, Bluey, Hunter and Swimmy. Very EXCITING!
As part of our Social Studies, I Can unit, we have been learning about and sharing all the different things we can do! First, we talked about now that they are 4 and 5 years old...what are things they can do!?! Then they completed a part of their personal timeline (Now that I am 5, I can...). As part of another project, each child shared something cool they can do. I took a photo and the children are going to carefully observe and study the photo to make a black pen drawing of themselves. You will see these drawings on display during conferences next week.We also talked, sang and read about when we were babies and completed the beginning section of our timelines (When I was a baby, I could...). Today, we shifted our focus to when we are big and finished our timelines, (When I am big, I will...). Tomorrow, the children will each make a class book page about what they want to be when they grow up. Lots of ideas flowing already.
Here are a few notes and bits of information for this week:
- This is our last week of swimming. We will swim tomorrow (19th-Monday), on Tuesday (20th Oct.) and our last swim class for this session will be this Thursday (22nd Oct.).
- Thursday morning, our KG class will have a "Little Monsters" party. I know that our room parents, Ericka and Paige, have been busy preparing for our "monster" themed stations that will include a monster fruit kebab snack, monster games, and other fun monster crafts and activities. Children should come to school in their regular school clothes, this is NOT a costume party. Parent volunteers, we will set up from 9:00 to about 9:10/9:15 while the children listen to a read aloud of a monster book. Stations will run from 9:15 to 10:00 a.m. While the children are at recess from 10:00-10:20 we will clean up from the party. Thank you in advance to all the parents who have volunteered to help make our fall "Little Monster" party fun and memorable for the kids. Special thanks to our room moms!
- Elementary Fall Festival is on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. The children come back to school, with their family, dressed up in their costume. Remember to donate one bag of candy per child who will Trick-or-Treat in your family. :-) Please do NOT send hard candy or candy with peanuts/nuts.
- Parent/Teacher Conferences will be on October 25th and 26th. There will be no school on these days for ES. The window for booking your conference online closed this afternoon. If you haven't yet booked an appointment, please contact Ms. Lillie in the ES Office as soon as possible. Children do NOT need to attend the conference. I look forward to sharing with you about your child's strengths, goals and interests and to hearing from you about your hopes for your child this year!
- Our new Shoebox book for the week is called Trick or Treat. The star word highlighted in the book is go. Be sure to take some time to have your child read his/her book to you. Remember, if children don't finish coloring the pictures at school, they can always work some more at home. (Last week's book was called I Can Move and the Star word was can.)

Looking forward to lots of fun on Thursday for our "Little Monsters" party and Fall Festival.
Hope to see you there!
xx Ms. Cori
