KG NEWS

Dear Families,

This week we had a lot of excitement learning and watching our Plain Tiger butterflies' life cycle happen right before our eyes. We have had 2 butterflies emerge from their chrysalis and currently have 3 more working their butterfly magic inside their chrysalis. We also had an exciting day today with some new caterpillars of a different kind....they are so very tiny and active that we had many escapes from the container! At one point, we had 3 caterpillars at large in the classroom. All but one are accounted for thanks to the sharp KG eyes keeping a look out!

We are collecting a few more jam jar LIDS for an upcoming little project. We only need about 7 more. Here is a photo of the type of lid we want...

Next week on Monday, I will be doing individual reading assessments with the children. I look forward to having dedicated time to work with each child. Ms. Dora will be in the classroom with our guest teacher working on the activities I have planned for them.

Enjoy your weekend!
xx Ms. Cori

Mark your calendars...
  • February 14th is Valentine's Day. Your child is welcome to bring valentine cards to pass out to all of his/her classmates (18 students in total). Students may attach a small, wrapped piece of candy (no nuts please). In place of candy, students sometimes bring stickers, erasers, pencils, little notepads, or bookmarks. We will make valentine bags at school to collect our surprises in. We will help the children pass out their Valentine cards on Sunday morning during Choosing Time.
  • February 15th will be our 100th Day of Kindergarten! We plan to make a "100-Day Snack Mix." This requires that each child bring 100 pieces of one type of snack food. At school, we will add our snacks together, mix them up, and share. Please have your child count the individual pieces at home. Suggestions for a great mix include cereal, raisins, pretzels, small crackers, popcorn, dried fruit, mini marshmallows, or M & M's. Please do not send any nuts or hard candy.
  • Parent/Teacher Conferences will take place February 17 and 18. Please sign up online for your conference time. A message was sent from the ES office with instructions.
  • On February 24th, we will host a "KG Publishing Party" in our classroom, from 9:15-10:00 a.m. KG has been writing personal narrative stories, and now it's time to publish their favorite stories and share them with an audience - YOU! This is a big event in KG, and marks an important milestone in your child's writing development. You will receive a written invitation and an opportunity to RSVP in the coming week.
  • February 28th - No School (staff in-service). This is an updated calendar event.
